Comme vous le savez, notre mission est de maintenir la présence de Jimmy dans son second pays, de faire rayonner son œuvre et de transmettre ses valeurs humanistes au plus grand nombre à travers de nombreuses actions (conférences, débats, lectures, projections, expositions, concerts…)

 

Nous veillons également à ce que ses écrits soient disponibles et enseignés dans les écoles en France et ailleurs.

Le Collectif a reçu le soutien et la parrainage de nombreuses personnalités telles que: Max Roach, Ted Joans, Maya Angelou, Angela Davis, Cornel West, Costa Gavras, Russell Banks, Raoul Peck, Clyde Wright, Guy Bedos, Dany Laferrière, Alain Mabanckou...

 

Notre budget annuel est constitué pour l'essentiel de l'argent que nous récoltons des adhésions et des dons. Cet argent est intégralement utilisé pour le montage de nos différentes actions.

​Parce que nous tenons à ce que les manifestations du Collectif soient totalement gratuites, nous demandons à ceux d'entre vous qui le désirent d'adhérer au Collectif en tant que membres bienfaiteurs, ou bien de faire un don de solidarité à la hauteur de vos moyens.

Dear friends, the James Baldwin Collective (COLLECTIF JAMES BALDWIN), which is celebrating its 27 springs this year, is in dire need of your financial support.

First of all, thank you all for your continued support over the years.

 

As you know, our mission is to maintain Jimmy's presence in France, his chosen "home country" (after he didn't feel safe and recognized in the USA), to promote his work and to transmit his humanist values ​​to as many people as possible through numerous actions (conferences, debates, readings, projections, exhibitions, workshops, concerts…)

​

Most of our annual budget is made up of money that we collect from memberships and donations. This budget which is used exclusively for the conception of projects and execution our various actions.

​

As we all feel, this wide range of actions has never been so necessary or urgent as in the years.

​

Because we want the events of the Collective to be completely free of charge, we ask those of you who wish to join the Collective as benefactor members, or else to make a solidarity donation commensurate with your means to enable us to continue this important work.

 

A WIDE RANGE OF PROJECTS HAS BEEN STARTED AND NEED URGENT FINANCING / SUBSIDIES

 

- the French theatrical creations of two masterpieces of African-American culture unjustly ignored in France and in Europe for decades: "BLUES FOR MR CHARLIE (1964) by James Baldwin and "A RAISIN IN THE SUN" (1959) by Baldwin's close friend, the female author Lorraine Hansberry

 

- the creation of a GRAPHIC NOVEL about Jimmy's Parisian years,

 

- the SUBTITLING in French and German of the videos of his major interviews and conferences

- ITINERANT MODULES - composed of screenings, conferences and exhibitions intended for cultural and educational sittings with adults and younger public.

 

In short, without everyone's collaboration, it will be almost impossible for us to fulfill most of these tasks and keep our self-management and ethical independence that is so important to us.
